Long boom excavator models used in construction

The long boom excavator is a development of the excavator with an exceptionally long cantilever, mainly used for demolition and many other applications. Rather than digging trenches, the high boom excavator is designed to reach the upper levels of a building being demolished and pull down the structure in a controlled manner. It has largely replaced the wrecking ball as the primary demolition tool. The long boom can work in tough and extreme working conditions that other excavators cannot reach. This unique advantage makes it reliable enough to handle a wide range of structures. Long boom excavators are highly mechanised, with simple work organisation and easier operation, thus increasing efficiency and saving human resources.

Different models of long boom excavators

Long-arm excavators with heavy-duty buckets

Designed for the marble and granite excavation industry, the modern models are equipped with heavy-duty buckets to ensure long life even in demanding applications. With its heavy-duty X-frame and reinforced boom and arm, it offers greater stability when lifting and side-shifting blocks. Equipped with a CRDI engine, it is fuel efficient and produces high torque at low speeds to suit a wide range of jobs.

The 15m long work mechanism hydraulic excavator hybrid is mainly used in water engineering construction, port construction, river and lake dredging and other construction projects. The standard 800mm track reduces the ground pressure and increases the serviceability of the hydraulic excavator; the patented hydraulic control system of the extra-long working mechanism allows the operator to easily control this type of hydraulic excavator; the excellent design and manufacturing process of the extra-long working mechanism ensures the extra-long service life of the mechanism.

Long boom excavators for long reach buckets

With an extended boom and arm and additional counterweights to increase digging capacity in deep or long reach applications, this new model has a working weight of 88,200 lbs, a 268 hp Tier 4 Final diesel engine and up to 24,500 ft-lbs of bucket digging power. The extension boom and boom have a maximum digging radius of 61 ft. 3 in. and a maximum digging depth of 46 ft. 3 in. The model also features a low-maintenance Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) Tier 4 Final solution that provides greater fuel efficiency without sacrificing power. SCR allows the engine to run at peak performance throughout the duty cycle, and because it operates without a diesel particulate filter (DPF), there are no DPF regeneration or associated lifetime service costs.

Long boom excavator with 7m boom and 4.8m bucket arm

The new model is equipped with a 7m boom and 4.8m bucket boom - the longest possible combination of digging equipment for this model of excavator - to provide maximum flexibility and increase utilisation within the quarry. In this configuration, the machine has a forward reach of 13.3m, a digging depth of 9.2m and an actual dump height of 7.2m, allowing it to easily clear blast face residues from a safe distance. The machine is mounted on 700mm wide track plates with a maximum load capacity of 5.1 tonnes and its 2.1 cubic metre heavy duty rock bucket is capable of feeding the mobile jaw crusher.

Long boom excavator up to 118 ft high

With an excellent reach and a maximum pin height of 118 feet, the new model can also be easily reconfigured with extensions and different boom sets, making it a versatile demolition tool. This model also has a second hydraulic modular joint on the telescopic boom, allowing the angle of the telescopic boom and digging arm to be set quickly and safely between curved and straight configurations.

Long boom excavator with on-board satellite communication

The new 50 to 87 tonne machines can operate 24 hours a day in the most challenging environments and are suitable for earthworks, construction, mining and quarrying operations. They are specifically designed for quarrying and have additional features for harsh conditions. They are renowned for their 120 to 800 tonne mining models with excellent loading and excavation capabilities. With powerful and economical engines, on-board satellite communication systems and easily accessible checkpoints, you can rely on Hitachi large excavators to work reliably with low running costs.

Long-boom excavators for well digging, river and canal cleaning and metro construction

The new range of long reach excavators is primarily used for applications such as well digging, river and canal cleaning and metro construction. These excavators are designed to better synchronise the engine and hydraulic system with the extended and heavier components. They are equipped with an 8.5m long boom, a 6.02m long boom and a long tracked chassis with 800mm track width for better operational safety and stability. These excavators are equipped with the intelligent DOMCS (Dynamic Optimised Machine Control System), which ensures unparalleled productivity and optimum fuel economy, as well as superior hydraulic adjustment that can handle greater digging forces.

The long boom excavators continue to evolve with features such as tilting cabs, cantilevered CCTV equipment and additional protection, making the machines more comfortable and precise to use, as well as safer. Highly reinforced cabs help to improve operator safety by providing effective protection against falling objects. This evolution has continued over time, with individual manufacturers partnering with specialists to build long reach machines that meet the specific requirements of each customer.
